LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Food Malik Nadim Kamran has said that the provincial government will purchase this year 5 million tonnes wheat and that no ban on transport of the commodity has been imposed.
Addressing a press conference at Chief Minister House here, the Minister said the purchase of wheat will begin from April 20 for which the Federal Government will provide Rs119 billion.
He said the Punjab government has completed arrangements for Bardana for purchase of 5.4 million tonnes wheat.
The Minister said the provincial government is not going to buy wheat from the private sector no matter how much commodity the latter accumulates.
Nadim Kamran said an officer has been posted at every point of the purchase process to ensure transparency.
He said tenders have been floated for storage of 5 million tonnes wheat.
