KARACHI: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and India’s Rohan Bopanna have reached the final of the Grand Prix King Hassan-II Championship.
They beat Phillip Marx of Germany and Igor Zelenay of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final in the ATP tournament being held in Casablanca, Morocco.
Controlling the game from the onset, the Qureshi-Bopanna pair broke their opponents’ serve in the eighth game. Serving for the set, Qureshi made no mistake and bagged the set.
The Indo-Pak duo broke the Marx-Zelenay serve early in the second set but lost the advantage when their own serve was broken soon after.
However, they broke back in the next game and managed to hold on to the advantage this time, taking the set conveniently at 6-4.
Qureshi and Bopanna hit six aces, as opposed to their opponents’ three, and converted three of the four break points they won. Marx and Zelenay could only convert one of their seven.
Of the game’s 110 points, the Qureshi-Bopanna duo won 60.
The sub-continental pair will now face Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Horia Tecau of Romania in the final on Saturday.
