LAHORE (APP) - Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah Monday urged PML- N and other opposition parties to help government in overcoming energy crisis in the country assuring that their proposals would be implemented.
“Let us sit together and solve energy crisis. Your voice would be the voice of the government”, he said while addressing a business conference at a local hotel here.
He said that the next goal of PPP led government was to make the country self-sufficient in the field of energy adding that the people should give the government one year to make the industry go.
The minister stressed that the government had inherited the power crisis from the previous regime and the steps were being taken to reduce the deficit to the minimum at the earliest.
He said the annual loss to Wapda through power theft was to the tune of Rs 240 Billion adding that projects of 3,000 MW could be started with this amount.
The Minister lauded the role of private sector in the development of agro based industry. He lamented fact that the government sector has not worked to its potential during the past 62 years.
He said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto took revolutionary steps in 1975 for the development of agriculture in the country. “Sukkur Research Center was set up on the initiative of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto”, he said adding that the credit for the research and agriculture goes to the private sector.
He said PPP Government was working on the new technology through which more yield could be produced with minimum quantity of water. He said that the government was also entering a pact with China in order to enhance the average cotton yield per acre from 15 maunds to 45 maunds.
He said that Pakistan was an agro-based country and the government was aware of water needs of the farmers.
