ISLAMABAD - The Government is totally failed to control the soaring inflation, as it increased by 18.24 percent in the week ended on Thursday against the same period of previous year, the Federal Bureau of Statistics reported on Saturday.
According to the latest figures issued by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, SPI based inflation for all income groups recorded at 18.24 percent in previous week against the same period last year while it showed a slight increase of 0.63 percent on weekly basis.
During the year SPI inflation recorded at 18.18 percent for the lowest income group earning up to Rs 3, 000 per month, while the SPI inflation increased by 18.11 percent for the income group (Rs3, 001 and Rs5, 000). Similarly, an increase of 17.84 percent was noted in inflation for the income group (Rs 5,001-Rs 12, 000). During the year the SPI inflation increased by 18.28 percent for the high-income group earning more than Rs 12,001 per month. The inflation increased by 0.30 percent for the low income group during the week under review against the previous week, while the inflation increased by 0.31 percent for income group (Rs 3001- Rs 5,000), and it rose by 0.39 percent for the group earning Rs 5,001- Rs 12,000 per month.
Similarly, the SPI increased by 0.79 percent for the higher income group earning more than Rs 12,000 per month.
The bureau from the price of 53 necessary kitchen items monitors the weekly-based sensitive price indicator. In the week time prices of 19 commodities went up, 12 items showed decline while the cost of 22 times remain unchanged.
Economic experts believed that inflation is expected to go up further next month when the impact of the increase in prices of petroleum products would be visible.
The main items that registered increase in a week time are as onions, diesel, chicken, kerosene, petrol, vegetable ghee, cooking oil, mash pulse washed, mutton, moong pulse washed, rice basmati broken, firewood, beef and garlic.
The prices of six items that registered decline during the week-included egg, LPG (11-kg cylinder), sugar, wheat average quality, bananas, potatoes, masoor pulse washed, wheat average quality and gram pulse washed in the last week.
