The approval came at a special meeting of the cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Addressing the meeting, Gilani said the passage of the bill would strengthen the federation and democracy. He said the bill would be “a landmark in the constitutional history of the country”. Raza Rabbani, chairman of the parliamentary committee on constitutional reforms, earlier briefed the cabinet on 18th Amendment Bill 2010.
