Administration of justice sole duty of courts, lawyers: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday said the administration of justice was considered to be the sole duty of courts and legal fraternity.

The chief justice expressed these views while talking to a delegation of the District Bar Mirpurkhas, led by its President Salah-ud-Din Panhwar, which called on the chief justice, along with other office-bearers and members, in the Supreme Court Branch Registry, Karachi.

Addressing the delegation, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said: “A country cannot claim to have good governance without providing easy, affordable, speedy and impartial justice to the people.”

The chief justice urged the lawyers to be honest and sincere with their profession and pay more attention to their cases and avoid adjournments. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry further said that they should extend full cooperation to eradicate corruption from the judiciary.

The delegation discussed the issues related to the legal fraternity with the chief justice. The members of the delegation assured Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of extending their cooperation in the implementation of the National Judicial Policy, 2009.

The delegation members also appreciated the struggle of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for strengthening the role of the judiciary in the society. The delegation members extended an invitation to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to visit the Mirpurkhas Bar Association. The chief justice accepted the invitation.
