ARIFWALA: Four civil judges resigned from their offices here on Friday to protest against the misbehaviour with their colleague by a lawyer in Faisalabad.
The four civil judges — Adnan Mushtaq Bhatti, Manzoor Hussain, Imtiaz Hussain Sheikh and Adnan Anjum Gondal — sent their resignations to Additional Sessions Judge Mehmoodul Hassan.
Earlier, the four civil judges locked their courtrooms for an hour. After opening their courtrooms, the judges went to their residences to register their protest. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
Our Rawalpindi correspondent adds: The judicial work in the Rawalpindi district courts remained suspended as all the civil judges went on a strike against the Faisalabad incident.
The civil judges wore black armbands to mark their protest, demanding an end to such incidents. They also demanded legal action against the lawyer.
A division bench of the Lahore High Court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the lawyer, who allegedly slapped the civil judge, Tariq Mehmood. The bench directed the Faisalabad police to arrest lawyer Liaquat Javed and produce him before the court on March 30.
The civil judges of the Rawalpindi district courts demanded that Liaquat Javed should be put behind the bars for this act or they would continue their strike. Our Pakpattan correspondent adds: A meeting of judges was held in the chamber of Senior Civil Judge Ijaz Ahmad Butt here on Friday.
Addressing the meeting, Civil Judges Fahim Shahid, Shahzad Hamdani, Jamil Bhatti, Nadeem Hussain, Imran Farooq and Amir Shahzad said the lawyers pressurised them for getting a verdict of their choice. They launched a pen-down strike and vowed to continue it till the acceptance of their demands.
Our Kasur correspondent adds: Thirty civil judges went on two-day leave in protest against a resolution passed by lawyers against District and Sessions Judge Javed Rashid Mahboobi here on Friday.
On Thursday, the lawyers held an emergency meeting, chaired by DBA President Chaudhry Abdul Rahman Tabbassum and accused District and Sessions Judge Javed Rashid Mahboobi of misbehaving with the lawyers. They also passed a resolution, demanding the transfer of the judge. They also threatened to boycott the courts if the judge was not transferred in a week. Later, they issued a press release mentioning their demands.
After the issuance of the press release, 30 judges from Kasur, Pattoki and Chunian gathered at the residence of District and Sessions Judge Javed Rashid Mahboobi to express solidarity with him. They submitted their two-day leave to him.
District and Sessions Judge Javed Rashid Mahboobi and other judges said the lawyers pressurised and misbehaved with them to get decisions of their choice. They vowed to abide by the law and decide the cases on merit. They said they would meet Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif to get leave for 30 more days if the lawyers did not mend their ways.
The courtrooms were locked on Friday and no work was done. People coming from far-flung areas faced numerous problems. At Friday afternoon, the DBA members held another meeting and demanded immediate transfer of Judge Mahboobi. They said they would continue their boycott till the transfer of the judge.
