ISLAMABAD: Member National Assembly and Media Adviser to PPP Co-chairman, Farahnaz Ispahani, on Friday said that politics of intransigence over reconciliation would be disastrous for the federal democratic structure and called for quick resolution of the points of conflict about the constitutional package.
Commenting on the latest developments in the country in a statement, she said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had adopted the politics of reconciliation since the very first day of Pakistan People’s Party coming into power, but some political forces continued to play politics of intransigence. What they proudly refer to as “part of the game”.
The PML-N has taken a position completely opposed to the letter and spirit of the CoD, she said, adding that just as the committee was finishing its work and right before the historic bill was to be laid in separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate, the PML-N shockingly withdrew its support.
She said that people were the better judge of the political situation in the country today as the government was all prepared to bring 18th Amendment bill to parliament to restore parliamentary supremacy in the political structure of the country and had got consensus from all the parties, including the PML-N members of the constitutional reform committee.
“It was highly surprising and perturbing for the man on the street that last minute objections were raised without any cogent reason,” she added. She urged the PML-N leadership to give due regard to the feelings of the smaller parties from the smaller provinces as it was necessary to strengthen the Federation and democracy in the country
