Deadlock on 18th Amendment against national interest: Saifullah

ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded (PML-LM) Senator Salim Saifullah Khan on Friday expressed concern over the deadlock between two major political parties on the 18th Amendment Bill.

Addressing the party’s meeting here at the PML House via video-conferencing from London, Saifullah said the deadlock on the 18th Amendment draft was against the national interest and all the outstanding issues should be resolved through talks, said a press release. He said the issues should be resolved amicably through dialogue.

“The 18th Amendment Bill should be passed at all costs as this is a joint effort of a committee which has the representation of all mainstream political parties. This is an ample opportunity the nation has got after 1973 to do away with the presidential powers, which are contrary to the parliamentary form of system. Moreover, the deletion of undemocratic clauses from the Constitution and assurance on provincial autonomy would be major achievements of this parliament and all democratic forces should gel together to accomplish this task,” he observed.
